When it comes to feeding, Pomeranian Spitz are not particularly fussy. The right food and periodic vitamin support (during the spring moult) will be sufficient for the dog’s healthy growth and activity.
Look for the daily food allowance on the dry food packaging. If you are a natural breeder, half of your dog’s diet should consist of meat products, especially beef and chicken. Once or twice a week, the Spitz can be fed saltwater fish.
Although the Spitz can eat almost any human food, it should not be fed sausages, crisps and other foods that are not suitable for animals.
Rice and buckwheat gruel should be fed, with occasional cereal. Vegetables can be given both raw and cooked.
A particularly useful food for the Pomeranian Spitz is mutton and beef cartilage. This food is a source of essential minerals and also develops the dog’s jaws. Spitz bones should not be fed as they can injure the oesophagus.
An adult dog should be fed twice a day, puppies three to four times a day.
