How To Potty Train a Puppy

Home How To Potty Train a Puppy
1

Every dog breeder should know how to train a Pomeranian Spitz to use the litter box. The first thing to understand is that a puppy under three months old is too young to fully obey everything. It is not until they are six months old that they will understand and obey commands. Therefore, you must be patient and not get angry with your pet.

All in good time

Don’t expect your Pomeranian to go to the litter box right away, and don’t expect him to clean the whole area. It usually takes about ten days for them to get used to the toilet. During this time you should place nappies around the house. You can buy these from pet shops, but they are also available from chemists.

You should also remove all mats, rugs and runners, as some puppies prefer to use them to go to the toilet. This is instinctive because these floor coverings absorb moisture and hide the crime scene. If you can’t remove the carpets, it’s best to keep the Pomeranian in the same room or enclosure for a period of time. And before you train your Pomeranian puppy to use the litter box, you should cover the entire floor with nappies and gradually remove them.

“Carrot and stick” of training

First, decide where to put the litter tray. It is not advisable to move it around to avoid confusing the puppy. Then, after each use, praise the puppy, give him a treat and let him out of the room or enclosure. The convenience of such a keeper is that you don’t have to keep an eye on him all the time. It is enough to leave it in a pen and let it do its own thing, and it will not be distracted by the owners.

Before you train your Spitz to use the litter box, make sure that he does not relieve himself on the floor. If this happens, do the following

  • Wipe up the puddle with an absorbent nappy;
  • Lead the dog over to it;
  • Let him sniff it;
  • Clean the floor thoroughly to remove the smell.

This is often the case at first, as the puppy misses the puddle. This may be because he hasn’t had time to run, or simply because he has forgotten the right place. But it is always important to explain what he has done wrong. All you have to do is show him a puddle and say the word “You can’t!” and he’ll understand.

The above shows how difficult it can be to train a Pomeranian Spitz to use the litter tray. Nowadays there are a number of products that can help. These are special sprays that can be bought in pet shops. These products give off a special scent that scares the dog away from undesirable areas.
