Keeping, caring and feeding the Pomeranian Spitz

Home Keeping, caring and feeding the Pomeranian Spitz
1

Before you buy a small Pomeranian Spitz puppy, you should be aware of the breed’s basic care and feeding requirements. It is also important to know if you will be able to provide all the necessary conditions. The care of the Pomeranian Spitz must be impeccable. If you do, the dog will thank you for your kindness.

This breed is one of the smallest, but its thick coat makes it appear larger than it is. Therefore, great care should be taken when grooming a Pomeranian Spitz puppy until it is fully grown. For example, it’s important to make sure that the puppy doesn’t climb on high places (beds, stairs, chairs) or that it doesn’t accidentally step on things when moving around. All of these actions can cause serious injury. If there are young children in the home, they should also be taught how to handle the dog.

How do you make sure your puppy is well nourished?

Feeding the Pomeranian Spitz is also a very special part of his life. After all, they’re so tiny. This means that his stomach cannot digest all the food. Feeding needs to be carefully monitored to avoid serious illnesses later on. However, if there are sudden signs of upset stomach, do not worry – experts believe this is due to the baby getting used to the new food or liquid. This process does not take long – no more than a week. However, this is not always the case. Most breeds have little or no discomfort and feel fine from day one.

It is up to the owner to decide how to feed the Pomeranian Spitz. However, one of the following options is recommended:

  1. Natural products only. These can include boiled eggs, poultry, tripe, beef, veal, fish, cereals, some fruit, low-fat cottage cheese, kefir and herbs. Make sure you know your daily food requirements and buy only the freshest produce, without chemicals or preservatives. Never give raw meat or fish, fried or smoked foods, salted foods, chocolate, bread or citrus fruits.
  2. .Mixed diets: natural products combined with super premium food. When choosing this diet for your pet, remember that the foods should be alternated and not both at the same time. The order in which the Pomeranian is fed is up to the owner.
  3. Super premium quality food. When choosing a dry food, you must stick to this particular food. The food must be of super-premium quality, as it is completely balanced and contains all the essential vitamins and trace elements. It is the ideal food for the Pomeranian Spitz. Many health problems such as obesity, hair loss, dental problems and others can be avoided.

It is always a good idea to consult your vet before feeding your pet. The number of times a day your dog should be fed depends on its age. The recommended feeding schedule is as follows

  • up to three months – five times a day
  • up to six months – four times a day;
  • up to ten months – three times a day.

After that, it is common to feed the dog twice a day. In addition, the dog’s lifestyle, health, temperament, weight, etc. should be taken into account when feeding.

Hygiene procedures for Pomeranians

Grooming a Pomeranian is all about grooming. Regular grooming will keep your pet looking stylish and fluffy. Grooming prevents hair loss and tangles. And the dog should be brushed against the growth of hair. Brushing should start at one month of age, but not on dry hair, so as not to damage it, but on pre-moistened hair with conditioner or water.

Keeping a Pomeranian means bathing it. However, this hygienic procedure should not be carried out frequently to maintain the quality of the coat. A dry shampoo should be used regularly to remove any dirt that may have accumulated in the coat. It is important to comb the hair before bathing. It is advisable to dry with a normal hairdryer to prevent hair growth.

Parasite prevention and treatment

When caring for a Pomeranian Spitz, regular preventative care must be taken to avoid the occurrence of parasites. It is important to treat the coat every thirty days for fleas and every three months for worming. Of course, these treatments should always be done in consultation with your vet.

Many dog owners know how to care for their Pomeranian Pygmy Spitz, such as giving them glucose or sugar water to boost their blood sugar levels from time to time. Many small dogs suffer from the unpleasant phenomenon of hypoglycaemia. Low blood sugar is caused by not eating enough, poor quality food, etc. If your dog becomes less active and lethargic, give him a sweet treat or a subcutaneous injection of glucose as a matter of urgency.

Following these simple tips will ensure that you get nothing but joy and loyalty from your puppy.
