Training a Pomeranian Spitz

The Pomeranian Spitz is a very capable dog, so you can start training him quite early – he is ready to run after a ball and learn to stand by the age of five months. It has an excellent memory. Once they’ve learned a command, they won’t forget it and are always ready to obey.

If you encourage him during training, it will become his favourite pastime and he will learn the routine much faster. You can encourage him with treats, petting and words of praise – rest assured, your Pomeranian will understand when you speak kind words to him. Never yell at your dog, otherwise the training will have negative associations and success will be very difficult.

Another important point: Training should not be strenuous. Just 10-15 minutes a day is enough to keep your dog from getting tired and to learn the commands quickly enough. It is strongly recommended that you do not train for more than 15 minutes – otherwise both you and your Pomeranian Spitz will get tired.
