If you have a kennel or are a breeder, you may have customers who want puppies from abroad. The question immediately arises – how do you deliver a puppy from overseas?
The first thing you need to know is which country you need to send a puppy to and by what means of transport. This will determine the list of documents that need to be collected and presented at the border.
There are no particular difficulties in sending a dog abroad. If everything is done correctly, the customs officials will be happy to let you through after looking at the documents. However, there are some countries that are more strict about animals entering their territory and they may even refuse to let the puppy in and take it back.
The main difficulty is that many countries have a condition about the age of the puppy. Let’s say 4-6 months. For EU countries, one of the conditions for importing a puppy is a rabies vaccination. And not only the vaccination, but also a month after the vaccination some blood tests should be made in the laboratory, which, by the way, does not exist in Ukraine, and therefore the blood is sent abroad, the antibodies in the blood are confirmed, and only then, with this conclusion, you can go to the EU. This procedure will take at least 2 months, during which time the puppy will certainly grow up a lot. Clients do not want to wait that long.
Alternatively, you can find a transport company that specialises in transporting dogs and they will help you with your problem.
In the CIS countries it is easier to deliver puppies, as all you need to do is obtain a certificate from the state veterinary hospital, form 1, and show this document at customs.
If you decide to deliver the puppy yourself, you will need to decide on the means of transport.
The cheapest way is by bus. However, not all bus companies allow puppies to be transported. You will need to check with the company beforehand and let them know that you will be travelling with a puppy.
Flying is the quickest way to deliver a puppy, but it’s also the most expensive as you have to pay for the transport of the puppy as well as the airfare. On top of that, the customs at the airports are the strictest. And if you want to take your puppy to countries like Germany, Sweden or Austria, it is better to take the bus. This way you can avoid customs at the border with Poland or Slovakia.
It is also the cheapest way to deliver the puppy. You can either hand him over to a train conductor or a bus driver. This is the easiest way to deliver a puppy, but the documents should be in order as the border can check the documents of the driver or conductor and if they are missing there is no one to deal with.
If you are sending a Pomeranian puppy on the road, take care of its care. A special kennel for small dogs should be purchased. Moisture-absorbing nappies, preferably with several changes. Of course, you will need to provide some extra food and water. It’s also a good idea to take 10% glucose with you so that you can give it to a puppy if it gets carsick or doesn’t eat or drink for a long time. The glucose will bring the blood sugar back to normal and then the puppy can eat.
